Joyce Rowsell has been painting miniatures since she joined the Hilliard Society in 1982. In 1996 she won her first award, which was for a miniature shown at the Llewellyn Alexander Gallery in London. Since then she has won awards regularly. To date she has won over forty awards and carried out many commissions in Britain and the USA, for both portraits and subject miniatures.

Somerset Art Weeks has had her support from the beginning and she opens her house in Somerset to visitors for this event every two years in September.

Joyce has recently been elected a Miniature Artist of America. This is an honour given only to "outstanding practitioners in the field of American Miniaturism who are consistent award winners in major Miniature Art competitions."

Examples of Joyce's work are in the permanent collections of the Miniature Artists of America, the Hilliard Society and the Dutch Foundation of Miniature Art. She has had a mention in "Who's Who in Art" since 1996 and will be included in the next Dictionary of International Biography. She has had work published in the Somerset Magazine, "West Country Life" and the "Artist" magazine (UK).
