Originally from Middlesex, Sonia moved to Wiltshire in 1981. An interest in creating with colour led her to take up painting as a hobby in 1986. She has had no formal art training, but has taken advantage of local evening classes and weekend workshops.
Sonia works mainly in watercolour, depicting a variety of subjects, but in the last couple years she has developed a special interest in floral compositions in miniature. She does not aim to produce botanical studies, but uses the subtle colour and transparency of watercolour in an effort to capture the beauty of flowers.
In addition to exhibiting at local and county exhibitions, she has had a number of submissions accepted for the national open exhibitions of the Royal Society of Miniature Painters, Sculptors and Gravers, and the Hilliard Society of Miniaturists. She achieved full membership of the Hilliard Society in 1999 and of the Society of Flower Painters in 2001
A series of her images has been published as greeting cards and notelets and these are available from her.
