Patsy was born in Harrogate in 1952, and has lived in Scissett for twelve years. Married with two grown-up daughters, she resumed painting in 1995 after qualifying as a surveyor.

Patsy Earnshaw, British miniaturistEncouraged by winning the national Valuation Office Art Award in 1995, Patsy started to exhibit locally, and she has shown and sold work at various venues including Ilkley and Holmfirth. Patsy exhibited in 1997 and 1999 at the Banqueting House at Westminster, London, as a member of the Association of Civil Service Art Clubs. She is a member of the Society of Amateur Artists and was elected a member of the British Society of Miniaturists in 1996. Patsy works with a detailed style in formats as small as 2 x 2.5 ins in watercolour but enjoys working in a larger scale with watercolour, pastel and oils.

She was chosen as an Artist of Merit to win the Jonathan Shaw Prize at Ilkley in 1997, and won the prize for the Best miniature painting in the British Society of Miniaturists Ilkley Summer Exhibition 1998. Winning the first prize in the Valuation Office Art Award again in November 1998, Patsy returned to London to judge the competition in 1999. She was awarded the Polymers Plus Prize in Ilkley June 2000 as an artist best representing the true miniaturist’s style.

Patsy has paintings in private collections throughout Yorkshire and Derbyshire, in Lancashire, London, Scotland and South Africa, and has work displayed in a hotel in Scotland.

Patsy enjoys walking with her husband, and often draws inspiration from places visited, sometimes painting on the spot or working from photographs. She also accepts commissions and can work from photographs to produce portraits of people and pets.
